Writing a winning award entry: This week at Vernacular

Industry awards are like professional tennis. You’ve got to lose a few matches before bagging a major.

So naturally I threw my arms in the air when Vernacular client MediaWorks scooped the Media/Publishing category award for The EdgeTV at the TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards 2015.

I can’t claim credit for their performance, but I was really pleased with the award entry I wrote. It’s damn hard work to write a cohesive entry that marries a strategic insight with a cunning plan, marketing objectives and activity.

The secret to success? Planning. Or, rather, asking bloody good questions before putting pen to paper.

… Trouble was brewing. Traditional radio competitors and multi-channel entertainment options (everything digital) chipped away at the business of radio. As music and entertainment shift online, radio competes for attention in a fragmenting market – beyond even NZ’s shores and radio itself ….

Fancy your chances? Then call me and I’ll make your award a match winner.
